In battery production, manufacturing defects lead to high rejection rates and follow-up costs. That is why Fraunhofer ZESS is working on production-integrated testing methods for quality assurance in cell manufacturing. The researchers use non-destructive optical, acoustic, and electromagnetic methods and adapt them to the specific requirements of individual production steps. For example, the properties of the electrode materials can be checked during slurry production, the electrodes can be examined for cracks and inhomogeneities, or the wetting process can be monitored during electrolyte filling.
