Based on the preceding application analyses and simulations, sodium-nickel chloride laboratory cells can be constructed and tested at Fraunhofer ZESS. Cell characterization includes cell testing using comprehensive electrochemical methods (CC, CV, PEIS, GITT, etc.) as well as post-mortem analyses.
In addition, the manufacturing of prototype cells with capacities ranging from 1 Ah to 100 Ah is available – taking into account industry-compatible cell designs and standard technologies. Technical production of sodium-nickel chloride cells can also be mapped: from material synthesis and the production of active materials and ceramic solid electrolytes on a kilogram scale to cell assembly in manufacturing operations.
